PUBLIC NOTICE

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR DRINKING WATER

Bryan Co. Rural Water Dist. #2 Did Not Meet Treatment Requirements.  Our water system recently violated a drinking water requirement. Although this was not an emergency, as our customers, you have a right to know what happened, what you should do and what we did (are doing) to correct the situation. We routinely monitor your water for turbidity (cloudiness). This tells us whether we are effectively filtering the water supply.  When there are high levels of turbidity, there is an increased chance that the water may contain disease-causing organisms.  The following sample sites exceeded the turbidity standard of 0.3 NTU for the combined filter effluent in more than 5% of samples:

Sample Site - TP001 – Bryan Co RWD #2 WTP

Monitoring Period     January 2026

Percent (%) of Samples Above Standard  - 6%

What should I do?  There is nothing you need to do.  You do not need to boil your water or take other corrective actions.  However, if you have specific health concerns, consult your doctor. If you have a severely compromised immune system, have an infant, are pregnant, or are elderly, you may be at increased risk and should seek advice from your health care providers about drinking this water.

What does this mean?  This is not an emergency.  If it had been, you would have been notified within 24 hours.  Turbidity has no health effects.  However, turbidity can interfere with disinfection and provide a medium for microbial growth.  Turbidity may indicate the presence of disease-causing organisms.  The organisms include bacteria, viruses and parasites, that can cause symptoms such as nausea, cramps, diarrhea and associated headaches. These symptoms, however, are not caused only by organisms in drinking water, but also by other factors.  If you experience any of these symptoms and they persist, you may want to seek medical advice.

CORRECTIVE ACTION: On the night of Jan. 18th, 2026, the coagulant pump on Treatment Plant #2 stopped working.  This caused the sludge blanket in the clarifier to come apart and overwhelm filters.  The pump was replaced on the morning of the 19th.  The finished turbidity went out of compliance at approx. 1:30 AM on the 19th and was brought back in compliance at approx. 9:15 AM on the 20th.  Filters were washed multiple times on the 19th and the night of the 20th with filter run times averaging 3 to 6 hours. Also, heavy demand due to the winter storm event required us to run the Treatment Plants well beyond designed capacity.  The filters in both Treatment Plants became overwhelmed and caused finished turbidity to go out of compliance multiple times the longest duration of approx. 12 hrs from approx. 12:45 AM on the 29th until approx. 1:30 PM.  The purchase connection with the City of Durant was opened at approx. 12:00 PM on the 29th which helped lower the demand on the Treatment Plants.  The filters were washed multiple times on the 28th and 29th with average run times as low as 1 hr.
