This has been a frustrating time for us all and we continue to appreciate your patience.

Update on Water Issues - High Manganese

Rural Water #2 Personnel are continuing to work around the clock to make proper adjustments and repairs in order to improve the water conditions.  We are slowly bringing one of our Water Plants back online.  We will continue to serve our customers a mixture of purchased water from the City of Durant along with treated water from Rural Water District #2 for the next 72 hours.  This should allow time for us to determine if the  repairs and adjustments that have been made to the Water Plant and Clear Well are going to continue to allow us to produce good clear water.  We are continuing to request that alll customers, please, conserve water usage to household use only.  The problem is not that there is not enough water, but that the Water Plants are only capable of producing a certain capacity.  The more water used, the harder the plants, both ours and Durants, has to work.  This excessively high Manganese problem has been a trying time for us all and a whole new learning experience.  We do appreciate the patience and understanding of our customers.  We will continue to strive daily to provide our customers with the best quality of water.

Update on water issues

We are continuing to work around the clock in order to resolve our problems at our Water Plant.  We have received many calls today from Rural Water #2 Customers that state that they have heard that we are under a "Boil Order".  This is not true.  There is no "Boil Order".  All Rural Water #2 Customers are currently being served by water purchased from the City of Durant, which is perfectly safe for consumption and use.  We do continue to request that our customers limit their water usage to household use only, so that we do  not put the City of Durant in a stressful situation.  We are working closely with Oklahoma Rural Water Association Representatives, Dept. of Environmental Quality, Engineers and Chemists in order to resolve our problems as soon as possible.  We have also been in contact with other Water Districts that are facing the same problem as we are, high Manganese, in order to see how they are handling it and solutions they have come up with.  They have informed us that they too are continuing to struggle with this problem.  We will continue to update as progress occurs.

Update on Emergency Announcement

I would like to apologize to anyone that I may have offended last night with my Emergency Announcement. I understand that "demanding" is a strong word, but we are in an emergency situation and we need all customers to cooperate during this time. We are still requesting that there be no outside watering or unnecessary usage. Water District Personnel are working around the clock and we are still in hopes that we will have our Water Plant back in operation within 48 hrs.  I will continue to post updates as we progress.

Update on Emergency Announcement

Rural Water #2 Personnel are working around the clock. They have repaired the mechanical problem at the Water Plant and are now in the process of cleaning the clear well (storage unit for finished water).  The reason we have requested that our customers conserve water is because the City of Durant is not able to provide enough pressure to fill our main water tower completely, they are only able to maintain it.  There may be some customers experiencing low water pressure, but as long as everyone limits their usage to necessities only, there should be no one without water.  We currently have all emergency connections to the City of Durant turned on. If everything continues to progress as it is now, we hope to have everyone switched back to Bryan Co. Rural Water #2 within the next 24 to 48 hours.

EMERGENCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Due to mechanical failures at our Water Treatment Plant, Bryan Co. Rural Water District #2 has been forced to shut down our water plant and we are now purchasing all water from the City of Durant.  In order for the City to have enough water for the customers of Bryan Co. Rural Water District #2 along with their own customers, we are demanding that all Rural Water #2 customers restrict all water  usage to household use only.  NO LAWN WATERING, NO FILLING OF SWIMMING POOLS, NO CAR WASHING, ETC.  If the City gets low on water, Bryan Co. Rural Water District #2 will be forced to disconnect and our customers will have no running water until the Water Plant is back in operation.  We are demanding 100% cooperation.  At this time, we are working on the problem at the plant, but do not know when it will be back in operation. We will update as we progress.  Please share this information with your neighbors.

Progress on Water Problem

We now have clear water at our Water Treatment Plant.  We are going to begin flushing today and will be working our way throughout the system. This task will take 7 to 10 days to complete.  We are asking all customers to please limit their water usage to household use only for the next 7 to 10 days so that we will have plenty of water to flush with.  The more water we have, the faster this task will go. We appreciate your cooperation.  We will be posting daily updates of areas that have been completed and at that time you will need to flush all service lines and hot water tanks between the water meter and the house.  Please share this information with all of your neighbors and also mention this new "Alert" system on our website that is available to all customers.

Progress on Water Problems

We have made progress over the last 24 hrs. The water at our water plant has significantly improved, but it will take time to get through distribution. We will begin flushing in order to expedite this process. We appreciate your understanding and patience.

High Levels of Manganese

We are currently experiencing very  high levels of Manganese in our raw water.  We have been working night and day to resolve this problem, but none of the treatment methods seem to be working.  We have called in a chemist and he is on his way to our Water Treatment Plant in order to evaluate our situation, in person, and hopefully advise us on what to do in order to treat the Manganese out.  We are asking that you refrain from washing any light colored clothing, as it will discolor them.  I know that this has been an ongoing problem this summer, and believe me, we are as frustrated as you are.  We have contacted the City of Durant to see if we can switch our system over to city water, but they too are having problems and are not capable of serving those in our District along with their customers.  We will continue to strive to resolve this problem and we do apologize for the inconvenience that it caused our customers.  We are asking for your continued patience and understanding.

Color and Odor

We have high levels of Iron and Manganese in our raw water and we have increased the chlorine dosage in order to burn the color out of the water.  You may experience an odor in your water, which is the chlorine and there may be a tint of color.  We will continue to monitor this problem and make proper adjustments until the problem is resolved.  Once we have resolved the problem completely, we will begin flushing the main lines.  We appreciate your continued patience in this matter.

Water Update

All customers should now have good, clear water. We are still experiencing some "slugs" and they have been clearing up in just a few minutes once the tap is turned on, so if you do experience color in your water, please let it run for approximately 10-15 minutes before calling the office.  We appreciate your patience.

Colored Water

We are currently still experiencing colored water in some areas.  We are working adamently trying to get the water cleared up by flushing the main lines, but with the amount of turbidity (color) in the raw water that is coming into our Old and New Water Plant, it is more than our Old Plant can filter out, therefore we have had to shut down our Old Plant and we only have the one Plant in operation.  With the amount of customer usage in the Water District this only allows us minimal water to be used for flushing the main lines.  I know that this has been an ongoing problem and customers are getting frustrated, but we are asking for your continued patience as we struggle in trying to get good, clear water to all of our customers.

Clear Water

Most areas should now have good, clear water. If you are still experiencing color, taste and smell in your water, you may need to flush your service line and hot water heater in order to clear the water up between the meter and your house. We appreciate your patience.

Color, Taste & Odor Problem

We are currently experiencing color, taste and smell in the water. We are working adamently to resolve this problem by flushing all main waterlines.  All testing shows that the water is safe for consumption, but we do ask that you refrain from washing any white clothing until the water is clear, as it will discolor white clothing. If you have any questions, please contact our office.
